The brief for this new kitchen and living space was to provide a welcoming environment for a young professional couple to relax and entertain. The kitchen itself is situated in a long, narrow room within the existing residence. To avoid the space feeling overly enclosed, the pantry cupboards elevate above the timber floor appearing as though they are floating and create an illusion of additional space.
The suspended rangehood over the island bench acts as a focal point and complements the clean lines of the joinery. Shades of chocolate and warm grey laminates have been used for cupboard and drawer fronts which contrast with the crisp lightly flecked reconstituted stone benchtops and white glass splashbacks.
This kitchen and living space has recently been selected as one of Australia’s Top 50 Rooms for Australian House & Garden Magazine in 2007.
