The addition and alterations to the existing bungalow residence in Nailsworth has been designed for a young family with specific living and space requirements.
The upper storey is built within the volume of the existing roof space, helping to minimise the scale and visual dominance of the addition, which was designed with the intention of creating an ‘openness’ of space. The angle, a dramatic feature of the design, broadens the usable outdoor area creating a strong visual and physical connection from the paved areas, gardens and pool.
The combination of glass and lightweight cladding reinforces this ‘openness’ whilst the new materials and red brick creates an interesting contrast of textures and tones, complimenting the existing finishes.
